Sign Kits
We offer three options for sign writing kits, ranging from an ‘essentials kit’ containing everything you need to get started, to our ‘extensive kit’ which includes our much loved wooden kit box – we also have a kit without paint that is cheaper to ship outside the UK.

This kit is housed in our 45 x 35 x 20cm kit box – this signwriting kit box was designed based on a description in Bill Stewart’s book ‘Signwork’ from 1985. It is made from pine, with a plywood front to keep it lightweight for mobility.
SIGNKIT4 is the Essentials Signwriting Kit – the perfect starting point for aspiring signwriters. This kit includes all the essential tools, including high-quality paints and sundries, with a range of our brushes neatly stored in a convenient, durable brush case. Compact yet comprehensive, it’s designed for precision and ease, making it ideal for both beginners and experienced sign artists. Whether you’re creating custom signage or refining your craft, this kit provides everything you need to achieve professional results.
This kit comes with one of our foldable nylon brush cases – this case protects your brushes for storage or transport and then folds back to an easel for holding your brushes up an a convenient working angle.
SIGNKIT5 is the Vegan Signwriting Starter Kit and is the perfect introduction to the art of signwriting, containing a carefully selected range of high-quality synthetic brushes and essential tools. This kit includes everything you need to start creating professional-grade signs, with brushes that mimic the feel of traditional sable but are 100% vegan. Whether you’re a beginner or looking to expand your toolkit, this set offers the essentials for precise, beautiful lettering.
Gilding Kit
For those that wish to start gilding, GILDKIT1 contains all of the materials you will need to start gilding, together with the instructional paperback ‘Practical Gilding’ which aims to demystify the process.
Descriptions and explanations of the materials, equipment and traditional, professional methods of oil and water gilding are clearly set out in ‘Practical Gilding’. Originally conceived as a pamphlet for musical instrument makers, the authors soon discovered that by expanding the text they had written a book that would be an essential tool for craftspeople, conservators, gilders, decorative artists, antique dealers and collectors. This Archetype edition is a facsimile of the original book published by Mac & Me Ltd.
